Gray Matter: Citational Justice #1 In-Person
What is citation? Does it work like it’s supposed to? What should citation be? Who do we see in the public world of information and whose perspectives and experiences are unseen?
In this workshop we’ll apply the Bechdel Test for scholarship, the Gray Test, to Wikipedia and interrogate how citations up-hold patriarchal and white-supremacist exchange of knowledge. In doing so, we’ll intervene in the reproduction of homogenous voices in Wikipedia, the world’s favorite public digital forum.
BYO laptop.
This workshop is the first of three workshops on the politics of citation and achieving justice in scholarship.
