Log Listening: Introduction to Field Recording In-Person
What (social) information gets transmitted by sound? What is a soundscape, or a soundmark and what can close listening (and recording) tell us about the world we live in?
To answer these questions, in this workshop we'll go over the basics of using a field recorder and then go on a soundwalk to practice. This workshop is inspired by Pauline Oliveros Annea Lockwood, and Ultra-Red, looking to both sounds from the natural world as well as sounds from people and the built environment.
Recorders and headphones provided but smartphones and personal, wired headphones, also encouraged. Groups of two or three invited to do some advanced recording with microphones.
This workshop is for current Williams faculty, students, and staff.
